BROOKE

The Rabbit Hole is as crowded on a Saturday night as it was last Friday, maybe even more so since now that classes have started, campus is at full capacity.

I don’t see many people I know, but that’s to be expected considering the fact that most of the football and cheer team are partying at Wyatt’s house.

The guys steer us toward a circular booth not far from the main bar that is surprisingly empty.

“They reserve this booth for the football team on game nights,” Roan explains, ushering me to one side and wrapping a strong arm around my shoulders as he lowers himself next to me. “That’s one of the perks of being on the team, together with bottle service at the table, rather than having to stand in a line at the bar.”

“Yeah, only the plebs and the losers fight for a table and stand in line. Right, Kendall?” Richard laughs, rudely pushing his way into the opposite end of the booth with his date in tow without asking if he could join us.

The temperature goes down by quite a few degrees as he pulls Kendall onto his lap, smirking at the guys. “I’m not surprised to see the three of you here. I think the only one missing is Will. Ah, there you are, buddy. Macy, nice to see you.” He nods toward one of the team’s linebackers and his date.

“I can’t say the same about you, Dick,” Wyatt says with a smile that totally contradicts his tone.

“Aww, what’s up, Wyatt? Are you eating crow because your date decided to move on?” He looks at me with a sleazy smile. “Brooke, once you’re done trying out these losers, come find me. It’s only fair I get a turn too, right? When you’re bored with training dicks, you know where to find a real man.”

“That’s enough, you fucking asshole.” Wyatt moves to get up and lean across the table.

I brace myself for a fight, my gaze going toward the door where the bouncers aren’t even looking our way, but one of the bartenders comes to the table, effectively preventing the impending fight. He’s carrying a tray laden with shot glasses and a small black envelope he hands to Richard. “These were a special order, with the compliments of the house.”

The shot glasses contain a blue liquid, and a black label with gold letters spelling the words “Drink Me” is wrapped around each glass.

I take mine with shaking hands, unsure about drinking something I didn’t see being made. I decide to take the plunge because Wyatt, Roan, and Clint would never let anything happen to me. I haven’t known them for long, but I’m a good judge of character.

The drink is fruity and a little too sweet, but with a potent taste of alcohol, so I’m glad there’s only one each.

“It’s time to go down the rabbit hole,” Richard reads out loud. “Cross the smoke curtain at the stroke of midnight and behold the secret wonders of Luxe.”

He must be talking about this mythical Luxe Room Roan told me about.
